Know the Danger of the Dark Side!
Bible Text: 1 Samuel 29-31 | Preacher: Rev. Dr. Lou Saldiveri | Series: Sunday Morning Worship | Intro: The images of light and darkness have been used in the Bible for Genesis to Revelation. Everyday, you and I will face a choice: We need to choose to live in the light of Christ and the Scriptures, or in the darkness of evil and all its forces. I fear that in this day and age, we may have grown numb to all the dangers of of flirting with the forces of the dark side.
In 1 Samuel 28, we can see the unfortunate result of a lifestyle of a constant attitude of non-repentance, lack of pray, the absence of Scripture, and hearing the voice of God. Here are three results of going to the dark side:
We Become Hypocrites v. 3-7
In obedience to Deuteronomy 18, Saul had already expelled most of the mediums and spiritists.
Because of Saul’s continued disobedience to God and unrepentant heart, God would not answer Saul.
We Become a Friend of Darkness Rather than Walking in the Light v. 8-20
Saul went disguised and in darkness
He tried to deceive the medium
He opened himself up to forces he with which he should have never have tampered
He is faced again with his own failures and fate
He is overcome with fear
