Bible Text: 1 Samuel 14:24-48 | Preacher: Rev. Dr. Lou Saldiveri | Series: Sunday Morning Worship | Intro: When you got to a cardiologist, typically, he/she will take an EKG to see if the electrical mechanism of the heart is working correctly. It is my understand that it could also give some indication if there might be an ischemic issue going on. I want to suggest that in some ways, the words that come out of our mouths will give us a good indication of the spiritual condition of our hearts

In this passage, God show us that our words can reveal our spiritual heart conditions. More specifically, our words will reveal our spiritual inconsistencies.

1. Unwise Words
1. Words can be a reliable indicator of our spiritual heart condition
2. Words can make us sound spiritual on the surface
2. Unwise Actions
1. Without the Word of God, we become weak
2. Without the Word of God, we become self-centered
3. Without the Word of God, we become deceitful
3. Unfortunate Consequences
1. Unwise words can divert our focus from God
2. Unwise words can result in a superstitious and superficial faith
3. Unwise words can make us blind to our own sin
4. Unwise words can result in blame shifting

Closing: So, how is our spiritual EKG today? I suspect that if you and I are spending time with God in His Word and in prayer, our words might be more seasoned with truth and grace. I also suspect if you and I are willing to yield to the Holy Spirit, you and I would have a healthier spiritual heart. I suspect if you and I are obedient to God through the power of the Holy Spirit, we would continue to have a deeper love for Jesus Christ and His Word. What do you think?
