Intro: Do we really appreciate what really happened when Jesus was baptized in the Jordan by John the Baptist? This is not just another historical account. This marks the start of the public ministry of Jesus Christ who is fully God and fully man. The question is why did Jesus to be baptized? I would suggest the answer to this crucial question that would help us understand what a great Savior we have.

1. Jesus Identifies With Us

1. He identifies with humanity
2. He is anointed in power for ministry
2. Jesus Was Tempted

1. The Holy Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness
2. Jesus was tempted in every way we are tempted
3. Jesus shows us one of the purposes of temptation and trials

3. Jesus Begins His Ministry

1. Proclaims the Gospel
2. Repent

1. Involves a change of mind and heart about sin
2. Involves a sorrow for sin and not for just the consequences of sin
3. Involves a hatred for sin
3. Believe the Good News

1. It was good news of hope, peace, forgiveness, love, and eternal security
2. It was good news about the love and righteousness of God

1. God doesn’t desire that any should persish
2. The gift of the good news is free.

Closing:
The question we all need to answer this morning is, Do we grasp Jesus’ love and friendship towards us?This all comes from His character of righteousness and love. Do we really understand His grace towards us? Are we overwhelmed by His sacrifice on the cross to pay the penalty for your sin and mine as out substitute?
