Intro: One of the most common questions is, “Couldn’t God forgive people just by saying so? Why did His Son, Jesus, have to die?”.

1. Pilate’s Dilemma: What do I do with this innocent man?
1. The dilemma presented
2. The pragmatic decision
3. Pilate exchanges the truth for a lie

2. God is a Holy God
1. God’s holiness demands a the death penalty for sin (our rebellion)
1. The Trinity agreed the God would provide the solution for mankind’s sin debt
2. The Trinity also agreed that God the Son would pay my debt in my place
3. Jesus lovingly went to the cross to endure the full wrath of God in our place
1. Explain the physiological effect of the cross
2. The modern day equivalent would be the electric chair

4. Explain, “It is finished”

2. Prophecy needed to be fulfilled
1. The breaking of the legs of the two thieves and not Jesus
2. The piercing in Jesus’ side

3. What does this mean for us today
