“Come to the King’s Table!” 2 Samuel 9
Bible Text: 2 Samuel 9 | Preacher: Rev. Dr. Lou Saldiveri | Series: Sunday Morning Worship | Intro: I believe that we, sometimes, don’t understand grace or we forget the magnificence of God’s grace. How would like to try to explain God’s grace?
David is faithful to a promise he made to his best friend, Jonathon. Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth. In this passage, we see some key aspects of God’s grace and or own sinfulness.
We All Have a Disability; Sin
Mephibosheth fell and be came lame and so did we through Adam
See Romans 3
Sin prevents us from walking with God
We try in our own effort and fail
We are in trouble
We All Need a Rescuer: Christ
David acted on Mephibosheth’s behalf for the sake of Mephibosheth’s father, Jonathan
Jesus acted on our behalf for His Father’s sake.
David sought and called Mephibosheth by name
Jesus called us by name
We All Need Grace: Salvation
David gave Mephibosheth his promise of salvation
Protection from destruction
Provision for all his physical needs
Jesus promises salvation to repentant sinners who trust His as Lord and Savior
He promises to provide for us spiritually, emotionally, and physically
Jesus took on the punishment I/we deserve
God’s grace continues to work in our lives (sanctification)
Closing: Let us come around the King’s table and remember His grace and love.
